Review: The Death Cure

The Death Cure
The Death Cure by James Dashner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wahhhhh!!!! Maze Runner is over!!!! Wahhhhh!!!!

If you are going into Death Cure hoping that all the loose ends are going to be tied up...you ain't gonna be happy!

Personally, I would have been disappointed if all the loose ends WERE tied up into nice, neat little bows! One of the things I have loved about this series is the fact that no one knows which way is up, who they can trust, who is lying, or who is telling the truth. That continues! In fact, I was still expecting major storyline shifts as I was reading the last paragraph! Trust me Death Cure doesn't disappoint when it comes to surprises!

I can't think of a way to summarize the story without revealing major plot points, so I am going to suffice it to say that when the story starts, the gang is under WICKED's control, at some point they escape to Denver, and then return to the WICKED headquarters.

The ending was both shocking and one of those "well duh!" moments. It's what WICKED should have done all along...but you know what they say about hindsight being 20/20!

This was a fantastic series and I'm so pleased that James Dashner stayed true to the tone of Maze Runner. At one point I thought we were going to have a "Bobby Ewing taking a shower" moment from Dallas...but we didn't...I was going to have to personally kill Dashner if it had turned out to all be a bad dream!

Mr Dashner, I give you high praise for such a mind-bending, stomach-churning, roller coaster ride of a series! I look forward to reading your work in the future!

I disagree. The first book was fantastic, the second was good, but the death cure was terrible. Far too many questions were left unanswered, to the point of bad writing. Thomas never became the strong person he was in the Maze Runner, and the series simply had an incredibly unsatisfying ending.
